It’s been stated by financial experts that it is a matter of using common sense when improving your financial health. In my 20+ years working in the financial service industry, not only did technology change but the basic common sense has been over ridden with too many product choices, overwhelming financial advertisements and the “next best product” to solve your financial difficulties.
It is time to get you back to the basics therefore below I outlined 5 key areas on how you can improve your financial health:
- Live Within Your Means….Spend less than you earn and never overextend yourself financially because getting out of that hole will not be easy. It is important to learn how to control your spending habits in order to effectively manage your debt and live in good financial health.
- Put Money Away….It is never too late to establish a habit of consistently saving each month. You should always have a long-term savings, savings for retirement, and an emergency fund. An emergency never comes at a convenient time therefore you need to maintain funds for an emergency, such as medical bills, car repairs, or dealing with the loss of employment or even the loss of a loved one.
- Eliminate Reliance on Credit….Some types of debts are worse than others. You may not be able to avoid student loans, car repairs or even medical bills, however you can avoid depending on credit to survive. Whenever possible avoid relying on creating debts that you can’t pay off in a short period of time.
- Invest Regularly….Create an investing plan which is easy to stick to. You goal should be to eventually have your investments working to support you. Investing wisely can go a long way in preparing you for retirement and helping you to achieve the standard of living that you desire.
- Maintain a Financial Plan….The best way to get where you want to be financially is through a solid financial plan. It is normal for your plan to change from time to time, and this is fine as long as you have a basic idea of where you’re heading. You financial plan will help you to stay in good financial health by helping you prepare for your future.
